Patchouli of the Underworld is an unapologetically dark fragrance. It opens with a riot of spices, black and pink peppers, richly combined with lighter touches of mandarin and the opulent kiss of cistus. The scent is earthy and raw, giving the feeling of having ventured into a hidden kingdom, whilst glints of luminescence from precious stones glitter against a darker surface. Patchouli, warm and embracing, is joined by a forceful leather in the heart of the scent and the vivacious spice of carnation. Thick, waxy leaves push their way through the darkness and gloom, bringing life to the deepest of Pluto’s chambers. The base of Patchouli of the Underworld twists towards a warm, animalic, deep tone. The labdanum offers a complex, sophisticated feel, whilst the styrax adds hints of sweetness and spice. Castoreum rounds out the composition with a resonant purr.
